Shane Board Your Day Will Come - classic house remix by Maestro B. Proceeds to the "Chasing a Cure" charity for diabetes.
Thank you to NZ DJ Maestro B for expertly remixing the track especially for SCSNZ. Grateful thanks to UK singer Shane Board (Pop 4 Diabetes) for allowing us to use his original track.
All proceeds from the sale of this track go to the SCSNZ Type 1 Diabetes Cure Trial.
The SCSNZ trial is New Zealand's opportunity to lead the world in curing Type 1 Diabetes.
WHAT IS TYPE 1 DIABETES?
• Approximately 30,000 people in New Zealand and 34.7 million people worldwide have Type 1 diabetes.
• Type 1 is an auto-immune disease where the body’s own immune system attacks and destroys the pancreas cells that make insulin. It is not preventable and is usually diagnosed in children.
• For the rest of their lives, people with Type 1 have to take insulin by injection or pump and test their blood glucose levels many times every day.
• Managing Type 1 is a constant balancing act. The risk is always there of having hypoglycaemia (low blood glucose levels, which can lead to unconsciousness, seizures and death) or hyperglycaemia (high blood glucose levels, which can lead to chronic complications or acute ketoacidosis, coma and death). Chronic complications include depression, kidney failure, blindness, amputation, nerve damage, heart disease and stroke.
• Type 1 Diabetes affects every aspect of a person’s life and there are no holidays from it.
HOW CAN TYPE 1 DIABETES BE CURED?
• The trial treatment uses adult stem cells taken from the bone marrow of the person with Type 1 Diabetes (no embryonic or donor tissue is used).
• These stem cells are grown and their immune suppressing powers activated in a laboratory.
• The activated stem cells are then used to “switch off” the auto-immune response in the Type 1 person’s body (two methods will be tested), allowing their pancreas to start making insulin again.
It is hoped that the same treatment will be used in future to cure other auto-immune diseases eg MS, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Crohn’s Disease, Coeliac’s and thyroid disease.
